W.L. Weller Special Reserve is a straight bourbon built on the wheated mash bill William Larue Weller introduced in the 19th century, with wheat instead of rye for a softer, smoother style. It is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Burnt orange in color, it opens with a sweet, caramel-led nose, follows with honey, butterscotch and soft woodiness, and closes with a smooth finish and a sweet honeysuckle flair. Neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail.
